The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially begun the registration process for the UGC NET December 2025 examination, a national-level test that determines eligibility for Assistant Professorship and Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) in Indian universities and colleges. Aspirants can now apply online through the official NTA website, filling out their application form, uploading documents, and paying the required fees before the deadline.The December 2025 cycle is for postgraduate students aiming to pursue academic or research careers in higher education institutions. With over eight lakh candidates expected to apply, based on past years’ numbers, NTA has urged applicants to ensure the accuracy of personal and academic details, as errors may lead to disqualification or rejection of applications.

UGC NET dates and application process

The registration window for UGC NET December 2025 is now open on the official website — ugcnet.nta.ac.in. Candidates must fill out their personal information, educational qualifications, subject preference, and exam city selection online. After submitting details, applicants need to upload their scanned photograph and signature, pay the application fee, and download the confirmation page.It is important to note that no offline applications will be accepted. The correction window will open briefly after registration closes, allowing candidates to fix limited errors before final submission.

Applicants should keep the following documents and details ready before filling out the online form:

  • Aadhaar card, passport, or voter ID for identity verification
  • Master’s degree certificate or mark sheets (for eligibility proof)
  • Category certificates (SC/ST/OBC-NCL/EWS) if applicable
  • PwD certificate (for candidates with benchmark disabilities)
  • Recent passport-size photograph (scanned, within size and resolution limits)
  • Signature (scanned) in prescribed format
  • Email ID and active mobile number for all communications
  • Payment details or transaction reference after fee submission

Application fee structure: Category-wise breakdown

According to details shared by NTA information bulletin, the UGC NET December 2025 application fee is as follows:

Exam pattern and eligibility

The UGC NET exam consists of two papers conducted in a single session (a total of three hours). Paper I tests general teaching and research aptitude, while Paper II focuses on the candidate’s chosen subject. To be eligible, candidates must have a Master’s degree with at least 55% marks (or 50% for reserved categories). Final-year postgraduate students can also apply provisionally.
