RVCE makes biography of U R Rao part of curriculum for aerospace engineering

In a tribute to the acclaimed space scientist, late Prof U R Rao, RV College of engineering has made a biographical account of the former ISRO chairman a part of the course for aerospace engineering students.RVCE adopted – ‘The Life and Times of U R Rao: From Humble Origins to Space Legend – A Biographical Account’ by Prashanth G N and have decided to distributed 400 copes of the book free of cost to students. A digital bool will be made available online in a digital repository. The book will be part of a course on the history of Indian space and India’s place and collaborations in space globally. The autonomous college has also instituted the U R Rao-RVCE Award for Best Space Company in Bangalore and U R Rao Chair at RVCE.RVCE President M P Shyam said: “We have instituted the U R Rao-RVCE Award for Best Space Company in Bangalore which will award the best Space company in terms of Technology yearly with a grant of Rs 5 lakh. RVCE has also instituted the U R Rao Chair under which RVCE will invite space entrepreneurs, teachers, researchers, CEOs, Space professionals from around India and the World to deliver lectures, share their expertise, conduct cutting-edge workshops, train students in conducting research and undertake research for a month every year with an initial grant of Rs 5 lakh.”“When India had almost nothing on hand in the early 1970’s, Prof U R Rao launched a paradigm shift by initiating and executing manufacture, production and deployment of satellites, beginning with Aryabhata and then going on to set the foundation for not only a satellite system for the country but establishing India as a Space country to reckon with. And Prof Rao was the very same person who launched RVCE’s satellite initiative,” he said.Padma Shri M Annadurai, chairman, board of governors National Design and Research Forum has proposed Bharat Ratna for Prof U R Rao to honor him for foundationally conceptualizing, defining, operationalizing and setting the framework for India’s Satellite Development.
